Blessing or Curse?

Ensley has never really liked a pacifier until yesterday. It always made her angry and she would let us know with a deathly scream. Occasionally I could slip one in to satisfy her sucking but not very often...she would rather suck on mommy and she knows the difference in a paci and a nipple.

On our way to vacation she started acting sleepy so I covered her carrier with a blanket and slipped a pacifier in her mouth and she started sucking and went right to sleep. She woke up about 20 minutes from our hotel and the pacifier fell out. She let me know real quick that she wasn't finished with it. And for the remainder of the evening until she fell asleep she let us know immediately if her pacifier fell out.

Having her fall asleep with it in the car was such a blessing. She never cried or screamed the whole trip. (Maybe now she can sit through big church without mommy and daddy having to sit in the cry room.) But I hope she doesn't become so dependent on it that I never get to see her pretty face without a paci stuck in her mouth.

And another blessing from the paci that I hope continues is that she stopped sucking when full during the two feedings she has had since her new found love for the paci. Since she was born I have had to break suction after 20 minutes or so because she would seriously suck on me all day if I let her but last night and this morning she pulled off when satisfied. I was spending an hour each feeding (20 minutes on each side with burping after each). The past two feedings have been about 20 minutes each. If this continues I won't know what to do with all that extra time. We will have to see if this is coincidence or if the paci will satisfy her sucking for a little bit to give mommy a break.

Blessing now.... curse later! But at least you CAN take it away from her (unlike a thumb or fingers).... I would SERIOUSLY recommend not letting her take it to bed though. Until she is older, if she loses it at night you'll be up searching for and replacing paci well after she's learned to sleep through the night. Just my 2 cents.
