Strangers

Why is it that strangers (aka people I have never seen in my life) think it is ok to uncover the carrier to take a peek at my baby!?

Yesterday I was at Lowe's buying our new Christmas tree (it is the first tree we have bought that costs more than $25...I know that's pitiful). So I walked up to the checkout and the cashier says, "What do you have under there?" I whispered, "A sleeping baby girl". So she comes around the register to scan the tree and she lifts the blanket up and squeals, "OH! How precious! And look at that bow! It's as big as she is." So of course Ensley startles awake wide eyed. What the !?! Luckily she took the pacifier and went back to sleep. But what was that lady thinking!? And I'm too nice to say anything.

Then today we were at Walmart and she was in her carrier with the cozy cover over her because it was cold and rainy today. I was putting some apples in a bag when I hear a stranger's voice saying, "Oh how sweet!" I turned and smiled at the elderly lady. Then her hand starts toward my daughter. What the !? Don't touch her! You don't know her and she is sleeping! What are you thinking?! This of course is what I was thinking but not what I said. I said, "Thanks. She's trying to sleep." Which is code for LEAVE HER ALONE! Apparently the elderly lady doesn't understand polite code talk so she continued talking to Ensley as I pushed her away. Our conversation ended with the elderly stranger lady saying, "Well isn't she bright eyed!" To which I replied, "Well she is now."

I'm either going to have to attach a sign to her carrier that says DO NOT TOUCH! or I'm going to have to learn to politely say GET AWAY!

Learning

I love watching Ensley discover new things. Over the past week or so I have watched her with the same flower rattle. In the beginning she just watched and smiled as I rattled. Then she began to grab the petals and listen to them crinkle. Then she started pulling the petals to her mouth. I sit and watch her wondering what she is thinking as she stimulates her senses.

Her Mo sent her a big soft purple bear last week. Yesterday she would rub her fingers through its fur. Then she surprised herself every time she would grab a patch of fur and pull the bear to her face.

It is so fun watching her as she learns new things everyday!

Bounce, Sway, Pat

EJ and I have found that we bounce sway and pat instinctively now. In church on Sunday I was the only one holding Ensley but we were both swaying in unison. At home if EJ is trying to calm Ensley when she is crying and I am standing doing dishes or folding clothes I am usually swaying. And yesterday we were out running some errands and I had taken Ensley out of her carseat to change her diaper when EJ came out of a store. I was standing outside the backseat changing her and she was fussing a little. EJ came behind me and starting patting MY behind. Ha! I said "Do you realize you are patting my butt in the middle of the parking lot?" He said "Uhh! Oops! I was swaying too." Haha! Ohhh the new things that come with parenthood.
