I have started a new rotation this month at the VA downtown Nashville in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. I was nervous about this rotation, and it was probably the one I have been dreading the most; mainly because of the nature of the patient's disease states, but I knew that this would be a great learning opportunity for me because in class we only get an hour or two on this subject. I am excited to report that it is only day 2 and I have learned a lot already and the people I am with are great, so YAY!
A typical day looks like: I get there between 6:30 and 7 am (yeah so I am leaving the house between 5:30 and 6, that is early for me!!) and review the patient's medication lists as well as the nursing notes from the previous evening to make sure that none of the patients' problems or complaints are medication related. Then we round with the physicians, medical residents, and nurses to discuss each patient in the ward. After rounds the preceptor talks with us about an hour regarding things that took place during rounds and important things we need to know about the oncology treatment as well as the patients' disease states. He then gives us an article to read and/or an assignment for the next day. Sooo, now I am going to work on my assignments.
Congrats to me?
